Marone

The story behind Marone

Marone was the first record I ever put out, so it carries a kind of nervous honesty I can still hear every time I play it. I wanted something that felt like walking home late, warm air, tired feet, a rhythm that keeps you company.

The groove sits in that patient organic house pocket where the drums never rush you. I layered hand percussion under a soft, round bassline so the track breathes instead of pushing.

Looking back, this one set the whole direction: Middle Eastern melodic colour resting on an African rhythmic spine, held together by electronic space. Everything I made after this grew out of that idea.
